Grants & Awards
In two consecutive years (2013-2014), PPGAC received the dissertation award “Darcy Ribeiro” – CAPES, with the following dissertations: “Martim Gonçalves – uma Escola de Teatro contra a província” (2013), by Jussilene Santana do Nascimento, supervised by Dr. Edwald Hackler, and “Práxis Cênica como articulação de Visualidade: a luz na gênese do espetáculo” (2014), by Eduardo Augusto Tudella, also supervised by Dr. Edwald Hackler. In addition, three dissertations were given honors: Larissa Latif’s in 2007 (currently a professor at the University of Aveiro, Portugal); Alexandra Gouvêa Dumas’ in 2012 (currently a professor at the Federal University of Bahia); and Marianne Tezza Consentino’s in 2015, with the dissertation “O Rei Lear no Meu Quintal. Da sala de ensaio à cena: formação, percurso e método no trajeto poético de uma encenadora”, supervised by Professor Sonia Lucia Rangel.
PPGAC journals were awarded with FAPEX Extension Projects Award and partnership with UNEB. From 2003 to 2006, they were supported by the Secretariat of Culture. The Goethe Institute (Brazil-Germany Cultural Institute), the most important theaters of the city (Castro Alves, Vila Velha, SESI, SESC/ SENAC, Xisto Bahia, Gamboa Nova, and XVIII), and many institutions of the cultural area of Salvador (Museu Rodin Palacete das Artes, Fundação Pedro Calmon, and Fundação Cultural do Estado da Bahia) have enabled the use of their facilities, equipment, and services for the PPGAC.
Braskem Award
In 2013, actors, former students, students, and professors of the School of Theater won the Braskem Award in several categories: Best adult play for “Longa Jornada Noite Adentro” and Harildo Deda won best director; best text “Casulo” by Ângelo Flávio; Joana Schnitman from the Theater Company of UFBA won Best Actress; Claudio Machado won Best actor for the play “Destinatário Desconhecido”; Amaurih Oliveira won Best new actor for the play “Éramos Gays”; and Eduardo Tudella in the special category for lighting and scenography for “Longa Jornada Noite Adentro”.
Between 2013 and 2016, many PPGAC former students won the Braskem Award in Salvador, Bahia. In 2014, “Barrinho”, directed by Fernanda Pacquelet, a former student at PPGAC, won Best play for the youth. Eduardo Tudella, professor of the School of Theater, was awarded in the special category for lighting and scenography for “Longa Jornada Noite Adentro”. Regarding the plays of 2014 awarded in 2015: Paula Lice, a former student of PPGAC, won Best Text with the play “Para o Menino Bolha”. About the plays of 2015 awarded in 2016: Meran Vargens, former professor at PPGAC, was awarded for the play “Castelo da Torre”; and Gil Vicente Tavares, professor at the School of Theater of UFBA, was awarded for the play “Sade”.
Funarte was also another important award for the students Osvanilton de Jesus Conceição and Carlos Alberto Ferreira da Silva as a result of their creative practices associated to their dissertation projects.
In 2017, “Avesso” won in the category Best play for the youth; Alisson de Sá won Best New Director for the play “Malva Rosa”; and Maurício Pedrosa won in the special category for the set design of the play “Mágico Mar”.
Professor João Sanches was nominated for Best Direction and Best Original Text for the play “Egotrip” at the Prêmio Cenym de Teatro Nacional da Academia de Artes no Teatro do Brasil – ATEB. There was also the nomination of: Best Actor (Rafael Medrado), Best Supporting Actor (Igor Epifânio), Best Artistic Quality, Best Cast, and Best Sound.
In 2018, Professor Luiz Marfuz was awarded at the 25th Brasken Award for the text of the play “Traga-me a Cabeça de Lima Barreto”. Gil Vicente Tavares was also awarded for the plays “Os Pássaros de Copacabana” and “Um Vânia, de Tchekhov”.
